Diya aur Baati Hum is about Sandhya's struggle who dreams to become an IPS Officer. She dreams to break the boundaries of her narrow confined existence of middle class values. The story is also about Sooraj who is a sweet talker and a self-made man. He runs a small but famous sweet shop near his house. Eventually, Sooraj and Sandhya get married to each other due to strained circumstances. Sandhya is not able to complete her graduation because of this.
The story focuses on an unusual, unconditional, priceless love between an educated wife Sandhya & an uneducated husband Sooraj, and also focuses on Sandhya's struggle to fulfill her dream & a journey where she finds help from the most unlikely quarter of her life-her husband, who can make it possible.
